Day 1 – Our journey begins as we travel north along El Camino Real, “The Royal Highway” along which the 21 missions were built. Our first stop is the San Gabriel Archangel Mission.  Then we  visit the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. We will enter the  historic doors of the San Buenaventura Mission. In its time, this was a very prosperous mission with exotic crops such as bananas, sugar cane and coconuts.  Our overnight accommodations will be at the Best Western Carpenteria.

Day 2 – Have your cameras ready as we approach the majestic Santa Barbara Mission, the Queen of the Missions. Noted for its Roman temple façade and magnificent views, her history is fascinating and will keep you spell bound. Then  relax on a scenic drive around Cachuma Lake, heading to Solvang, a jewel of a town, with a Danish heritage, known for its delicious pastries. We’ll visit the Santa Inez Mission, a pleasant mix of charming simplicity and wandering hillsides. Let the quiet peace permeate you as you stroll along the walkways and grounds.  There will be time for browsing and shopping before heading to the Historic Santa Maria Inn for a hosted group dinner and our overnight stay. B, D

Day 3 –  Today we journey to the San Luis Obispo Mission. This was the first mission to make fire resistant red clay roof tiles, a common sight all over California now and is the halfway point in the entire chain of  missions. Today’s special highlight is the San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo Mission, believed by many to be the most beautiful of all missions, and noted as the most authentic
restoration.  You will have time to shop and browse in the quaint city of Monterey and Clint  Eastwood’s hometown of Carmel. Enjoy a hosted group dinner before our overnight stay at Monterey or Salinas. B.D

Day 4 – We’ll start our day at the San Francisco de Asis Mission, also known as Mission Dolores, in the heart of the city, it is the oldest surviving building in San Francisco. This is a wonderful start to an exciting tour of the city of San Francisco. We’ll see as many of the city highlights as time allows, including the Embarcadero, Fisherman’s Wharf, the Golden Gate Bridge and Marin County.  Elegant accommodations for the next 2 nights will be at the Concord Hilton. B

Day 5 – The San Francisco Solano Mission in Sonoma is our first stop of the day before traveling through the beautiful wine country of Napa Valley.  There will be visits to two wineries with wine tastings for your pleasure.  A farewell dinner will be hosted where you can reminisce with all of your new friends. B, D

Day 6 – Our tour comes to an end as we head back home.  It’s a good time to reflect upon all we have seen this week, and we are grateful for this inspiring tour.  B
